White Knight Painting Contest

Thanks to all of your support we are the top 3 finalists in the White Knight Painting contest! We are so close to having our office painted and creating a space that will motivate youth to drop by for programming. Our office not only serves a purpose for our staff members but it is a space that we encourage youth to come into to work on and accomplish their goals. It is difficult to give youth a warm welcome with a cold and uninviting office to come into. It is not too late to continue letting White Knight Painting know why they should choose Threshold Housing.

If you would like to see the other two top finalists in the White Knight Painting contest click here.  We do understand how difficult this is going to be for White Knight Painting to choose as the other two finalists are very deserving as well!

#BellLetsTalk

January 31st is Bell Let’s Talk Day!

Today is a good reminder to check in with friends and family about their mental health. Let them know that mental health matters and is just as important as our physical health. Don’t forget to also remind yourself that YOUR mental health matters too! What are you doing for #SelfCare today? Make sure to watch the video posted on @BellLetsTalk on Facebook & Twitter, use the #BellLetsTalk hashtag, send text messages if you are a Bell user, and use the SnapChat Bell Let’s Talk filter because Bell will be donating 5 cents every time someone does any of these things towards mental health initiatives. Happy New Year!

Our team at Threshold Housing wants to thank our community for the support we received in 2017. We want to thank all the people who helped us with our Shine a Light on Youth campaign during the months of November and December. From generous donors to all the individuals who showed up on event day and helped us make it a special day!  We have posted photos from the Shine a Light on Youth event on November 25th when we lit up the tree in Bastion Square on our social media accounts. (Photos are also posted at the end of this post)

For daily updates please follow our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages @THSVic.

We also want to thank the businesses and organizations in our community who helped us create more opportunities for youth in 2017. With the help of these businesses we are able to offer youth programming that is based off their interests. This allows youth to feel empowered and motivated to succeed. We also could not do this work without the fundraisers that are held for us. Thank you to the organizers of these events as well as the people who continuously support us by attending these events. We were also able to make the holidays special for the youth in 2017 with the help from generous community members and Coast Capital Savings. We are not able to make Threshold a home for youth without the support from our community. We truly believe it takes a village.

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE!

Threshold Housing is having a holiday open house!

We want to give our community a chance to get to know us better. If you are unfamiliar with the work we do this is a great opportunity to learn more, by meeting our staff and visiting our space. For those who know us we welcome you to come view our new office!

This is also the perfect moment to connect, mingle, and get to know other service providers in our community that work directly with youth.

SPECIAL EVENT!

Join Threshold Housing for a Tree Lighting Ceremony in Bastion Square to Shine A Light On Youth! Our goal is to light the largest tree in Bastion Square with 10,000 lights. There will be live music, the radio station Ocean 98.5, and free hot chocolate! This will take place on November 25th from 1-4pm! We encourage everyone to come down with their friends and family to gather and let youth in this region know that there is a community supporting them!

We will have Victoria’s Mayor Lisa Helps ‘flip the switch’ to turn on the lights at 4pm!

If you want to get more involved – We are asking members of our community to make a donation and buy a light to support programming that helps prevent youth from becoming homeless. For every $10 donation a bulb will be lit on the tree. We hope to sell 10-thousand bulbs before November 25th. These funds will assist us in providing transitional programming and affordable, safe and secure housing for youth who are at risk of becoming homeless. Help Shine A Light on Youth Today!

Our Condolences to the Family of Steve Morden

Our condolences to the family of Steve Morden.

“Steve passed away peacefully at home on September 11th, 2017. He led an interesting life doing a great variety of jobs, often helping those less advantaged, including youth support work and with the Attorney General as a probation officer.”

We want to thank Steve Morden for the incredible work he did with youth and for including us in his memorial donations.
