The Threshold Housing Society (ths)— which provides long-term transitional housing for youth at risk of becoming homelessness— is honoured to announce that we are the recipient of a very generous donation which will enable us to extend our service to youth.
In June of this year, an anonymous donor transferred title of a four unit apartment building to the Society. The property will be used to increase our units in the Safe Housing for Youth (SHY) program, as well as provide office space for staff of the SHY program and life-skills.
The building is located in the South Jubilee area and the Society is grateful for the support and endorsement of the South Jubilee Neighbourhood Association.
In order to bring the building up to code and to ensure its sustainability for many years, we are excited that Paul Latour and HeroWork is mobilizing Victoria to put on a Radical Community Renovation of the site in early October.

Background: ths employs two models to house at-risk youth aged 16 – 24. The semi-independent model houses youth who need mentoring and more support. A live-in supervisor lives with the youth working with them on a daily basis to assist with issues ranging from employment to accessing community resources such as mental health and counselling. The second program is a supported independent living program for youth assessed as having the ability to live independently but with support. Known as the Safe Housing for Youth (SHY) program, ths staff work with local partners such as the BC Housing Corporation, Pacifica Housing Advisory Association, the Greater Victoria Housing Society, the Capital Region Housing Corporation and private landlords in order to find safe and affordable apartments. ths staff members help to settle the youth, supply on-going supervision and build community among those in the program. The goal of the program is to give the youth a positive rental experience to build upon as they work toward independence.
