December’s Angels

On behalf of the youth that Threshold is privileged to house and to aid in their journey to adulthood, the Staff and the Board would like to thank the various organizations and individuals that made this a special Christmas for our residents. Without their help and contributions, it would have been impossible to spread the Christmas spirit with such largesse.

In no particular order, Threshold gratefully acknowledges the generosity of:

* Many thanks to the Allegra Singers of Victoria (Jill, Sue, Penelope, Karin and many others) for putting on two absolutely marvelous choir performances on behalf of Threshold on Nov. 30th and Dec 1st.  These were magical concerts that had everyone in the Christmas spirit very quickly.

* Many thanks to Josée Lalonde and Murray Cuff of The Housse: United Stagers and Stylists for hosting a silent auction on behalf of Threshold during their open house at their new location on Bay Street. This was a wonderful initiative and show great community support.

Char Deslippe and Isabel Harding of the Island Catholic Schools

* Many thanks to Suzie Nute, Char Deslippe, Isabel Harding and Jamie Zwicker of the Island Catholic Schools who provided wonderful gifts, especially the food and gift cards (esp. Macdonald’s!) that were big hits with the youth.   The Ginger Bread House was a huge surprise and dismantled gracefully!

* Many thanks to Erin Evans and the 12th Garry Oak Sea Scout Group (Beaver, Cub Scouts, Venturer and Rover Sections, as well as the Leaders and families) who donated food, clothing and goodies to Mitchell House.  Our house supervisor was blown away with the generosity of the gifts. What a wonderful way to teach youth about philanthropy and helping out the disadvantaged.  The Scout Group wishes to acknowledge the donations given by shop owners in the Oak Bay area, namely, Starbucks, Oak Bay Pharmasave, Oak Bay Butcher, Feys & Hobbs, Sweet Delights Candy Shop, Roger’s Chocolates and the Rocky Mountain Soap Company.

* Many thanks to Trena Green and the staff of the Red Barn Market for supplying the turkeys and hams that made the Christmas dinner for the youth a real feast.

* Many thanks to the Linda Allen and the Staff at CitySpaces Consulting Ltd., for their generous donation that helped us all in getting into the Christmas Spirit.

* Many thanks to Duncan Gidney of Clover Studios for producing such wonderful floor plans of one our houses.  Thank you for the giving of your expertise and skill so freely in aid of youth housing in Victoria.

* Many thanks toWalmart, Canada (Victoria and Langford locations) and their Community Involvement programs for helping out so quickly.

* Many thanks to Heather Oliver of Unilever of Canada for the donation that goes a longway to ensure there are not any excuses for not looking spiffy and clean.

Mark Muldoon and Gerry Howell-Jones of St. Matthias

* Many thanks to Gerry Howell Jones and the Social Responsibility Committee at St. Matthias Anglican Church for their years of support and special Christmas gift to assist the Life-Skills program.

* Many thanks to Christi Howes of Orca Books for the donation of recent editions. Yes, the youth do read because Orca publishes a wonderful series of young adult novels that speak to some of life’s bigger hurdles.

* Many thanks to the individuals who gave a little extra in December so that others might taste the spirit of the season.

Happy New Year!
