Monica Rao

Director

Monica Rao brings expertise in strategic financial management, executive advisory, and housing-sector operations, developed through her work with housing providers, First Nations leadership, and public-sector organizations. Her experience includes navigating provincial and federal funding frameworks and contributing to British Columbia housing initiatives addressing homelessness and Indigenous housing needs. In her current role as a financial consultant, she works with First Nations organizations to resolve complex financial challenges and strengthen financial oversight.

Her commitment to community service began at age 13, when she first volunteered with a nonprofit organization, and has continued through her involvement in causes that support community well-being. She believes that how society nurtures its young people shapes its future, and that every young person deserves the stability, support, and opportunity to build a meaningful life. This conviction underpins her connection to Threshold’s mission and its vision of a community where all youth thrive.

Monica holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a postgraduate degree in International Finance. Originally from India, she maintains a strong connection to her cultural heritage. Guided by integrity and respect, she brings a values-centred approach to her professional commitments. Outside of work, she enjoys strength training, reading nonfiction, and hiking BC’s quieter trails.
